Hugs 4 Heroes, Inc is a 501(c)3 nonprofit organization that was started after many years of showing appreciation to local heroes.
Cindy Malloy's father, Gordon "Buzz" Hamer was a proud member of the US Marine Corp, serving part of his time as a Military Police Officer. Being raised to respect and appreciate the efforts of military, law enforcement and fire fighters, Cindy wanted to ensure that those beliefs were instilled in her daughter Taylor.
In 2015, together Cindy & Taylor spent time preparing "Survival Kits for Police" and they visited several local police stations to deliver them, providing just a small token of appreciation. In February 2016 Harford County Maryland suffered a huge traumatic loss when two of their Harford County Deputies were murdered in the line of duty.
Being a rural quiet community, this was unprecedented and something that shook the community. While not being a high crime area, Cindy quickly realized that Taylor needed to truly understand that if our local heroes don't choose to go to work, her world would be very different.
When Taylor and the community lined the streets for the fallen police officers she couldn't completely comprehend the situation given her young age. It was this tragic experience that propelled the family's efforts to ensure that local heroes knew how much they were appreciated.
Through fundraising efforts, we prepare notes and gifts of appreciation. From baking cookies and wrapping them individually with a note of appreciation, to snack bags for heroes to keep with them in their vehicles, to custom printed gifts with Taylor's note of thanks "Thank you for keeping me safe! Love Taylor"
